literacy advocacy

Stacks of old, worn books bound together with strings, featuring weathered covers and visible signs of age and damage.

"To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark."

Victor Hugo

For over a decade, Stefan Bachmann has been collaborating with organizations to develop creative, effective strategies for promoting literacy and a lifelong love of reading. As the co-founder of the Zürich-based non-profit Foundations in Literacy, which in just two years has grown to support library development in six countries, co-president of AUTILLUS, the Swiss association of children's book authors and illustrators, and a board member for organizations active around the world, Bachmann brings a wealth of experience in literacy advocacy, program development, and literary initiatives. Bachmann has contributed as a consultant to numerous projects, and regularly serves on juries and committees in the field of children’s literacy development. His work is driven by the belief that stories have the power to inspire, connect, and transform lives.
